Continuing Core

You’ve graduated.  Continuing Core was created for you…to provide you a place in our community for ongoing connection, community, as well as personal and professional growth and development!

What is Continuing Core?

“Continuing Core,” the Institute of Core Energetic̱s Alumni Program, is offered for graduates who desire to maintain their connection with this powerful work and continue their vital relationships within the Core community—strengthening their gifts, leadership, and therapeutic skills with each other as colleagues and fellow seekers.

Being in the Core Community

If you’re an Institute of Core Energetics graduate, you’ve experienced how the training offered a uniquely challenging, supportive, nurturing community for your growth, healing, and professional expansion. The Continuing Core program now offers a full weekend of activities for you to continue to take part in the weekend’s rich environment of relationships and learning as well as the opportunity to continue to build, support, and be a part of this rich container of mutual support and connection with the students, faculty, and body of work.

Continuing Core 2015/2016 Workshops

Each weekend will offer a full day Saturday workshop on topics of interest to alumni, both those with a practice and those who wish to continue to deepen their Core practice in everyday life. Potential topics include how to build your practice, marketing yourself as a practitioner, Core leadership, the Art of Supervision, embodied sexuality, the spiritual aspects of Core Energetics, Core in the Workplace, and more.  Topics are chosen based on feedback and demand from graduates.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FOLLOWING THE SOUL

with Laurie Keene

Have a practice? Want one? Don’t want one? It doesn’t matter. What does matter is the importance of learning how to listen to the soul and follow its inherent grace and wisdom.

Whether it’s working with clients or yourself, the beauty of the soul is that it does not lie. While the personality attempts to cover, deny, deflect and protect through the mask, energetic defenses, lower self, negative images and beliefs, the soul communicates the real longing, the real need-truthfully. This truth is expressed moment to moment through the 4 Dimensions of Humankind: the core, hara, human energy field and the physical body.

Your ability to recognize the soul and pay attention to it opens you to a broader and more neutral expanse of reality. This is the land where miracles are revealed.

Whether you are working with clients or working with your own personal process, following the soul is essential for transformation.   Learn More and Register Here

SEXUAL FANTASIES: Meeting Your Dark Attraction and Awakening to Love

with Kristina Kincaid

Sexuality and emotionality are the same thing. There is no difference. As we are sexually, so we are emotionally and as we are emotionally so we are sexually.  In our early childhood, emotional wounding occurred which created a double bind- the dilemma of pleasure over fear and guilt, which resulted in suffering and pain. When we become sexually active these feeling obstructions appear potently in our body-mind. We sexualize our wounding bringing it though our character defenses.

Sexual fantasies are created as a pseudo-solution to this suffering and pain and show us the places where our real need and our false need for love, intimacy and connection was split off.  Shamed in these places, the humiliation that ensues becomes an erotic charge that reflects a sadomasochistic dilemma resulting in a heart/pelvis split in the body.

This weekend is for participants who are longing for a deep spiritual journey.  We will be working in the deep unconscious, uncovering where you turn away from some of your greatest gifts by delving into what has been deemed unspeakable and taboo.  Through exploration of sexual fantasies, sexual constellation work, untamed passions, conscious play, body work, breath work, movement, intimacy, connection, respectful service and a deep honoring of our unique and individual ways of loving we can begin to live as love. Internal Family Systems and Core Energetics

with Ted Riskin

“Do I contradict myself?  Very well, then, I contradict myself; I am large — I contain multitudes.”                                                                                                                                                              –  Walt Whitman

Think about your Core Energetics training class.  What was its favorite flavor of ice cream?  Kind of a silly question, because each member of the class could have a different preference.  Yet we expect human beings to respond to life in a unified fashion, when we actually “contain multitudes.”

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a method and modality that recognizes the subpersonalities of a person and provides techniques for working with them.  While each of us will perceive, name, and relate to these subpersonalities, or “parts,” in a different way, some common examples include the inner critic; a scared, hurt, or needy inner child; the part that figures stuff out; angry parts; addictive parts; and parts that hate, fight, resist, or fear those other parts.

When we can get enough separation from our parts so as not to be identified with them, we will automatically drop into the experience of “Self,” analogous to the Core Energetics concept of “Higher Self.”  The goal of IFS is “Self-leadership,” where all parts are welcomed and witnessed by Self, but the parts are not “blending” and running the show.

While Core Energetics can be brilliant at bringing out and embodying parts, especially exiles, they are rarely named as such in our work.  Bringing IFS concepts and techniques to Core can provide the following benefits:

  • The client can more easily welcome exiled parts because it is clear “that’s not who I really am.”
  • Rather than being lost in a swirl of various emotions, the client can gain more understanding and context for them.
  • Polarization can be worked with explicitly, allowing parts to become less extreme, and providing more opportunities for Self-leadership.
  • By integrating Core and IFS concepts in groups, the client can invite other group members to embody various parts, allowing him to step back and get a clear perspective on the inner dynamics that might have been running his life.
  • IFS techniques derived from shamanism, such as “unburdening” and “retrieval,” can provide dramatic shifts in the psyche.
  • By applying the model to herself, the therapist can invite her own interfering parts to “step back” in session, allowing the wisdom, clarity, compassion, and courage of Self to take the lead.
  • Recognizing the patterns that trap parts leads to the “best couples intervention ever.”

Ted Riskin, LCSW is a psychotherapist specializing in relationship issues and transpersonal psychology. After practicing in northern NJ for 19 years, he relocated to Asheville, NC, where he has developed a new space for therapy, workshops, and residential retreats, while continuing to work with clients via phone and Skype. Ted has certifications in Core Energetics, Internal Family Systems, Holotropic Breathwork, Integral Breath Therapy, hypnotherapy, and EMDR, and he enjoys integrating these various modalities. Besides serving on the Institute of Core Energetics faculty, he has taught in IFS and Breathwork training programs. He has practiced meditation since 1979 and has been active in the human development movement since 1985.
